Lovely, well appointed old cottage for rent on Fore Street, Ilfracombe. Dog friendly, with an elevated garden out back that's large enough to let you play fetch with the pooch, and has great coastal views. The kitchen is well equipped, there is gas central heating and a gas log-burner-style heater in the lounge. There are many board games, a large LED TV with a Chromecast attached, and a DVD player with a large selection of discs. Rosie the housekeeper is very attentive, responsive and helpful. Always answering texts within minutes. The bathroom has a good shower in the bath, which is so often a failing in properties like this. The gas heating works quickly and efficiently. There are so many great places to eat and drink within a few minutes walk that you'll be spoiled for choice. I had one of the best curries (Chicken Tikka Moricha) I've ever had at Tandoori Night. The only negatives to consider are these:You need to park on a long stay car-park, the nearest being Marine Drive car park. Be prepared for a 5 minute walk to and from the car. Fore Street is very narrow opposite the steps up to the cottage, meaning that whatever you do, you'll be blocking any traffic in behind you as you load/unload the car. Luckily, there's a No Entry sign at the top of the road, restricting it for access purposes, so traffic down Fore Street is light.Fore Street can be quite noisy at night, as "merry" individuals use it as a main artery between the watering holes of the High Street and the Harbour. There's some secondary double-glazing in the main bedroom, but this does little to suppress the racket. The Freeview TV signal is poor, and drifts in and out. The TV is smart, and has Netflix and Prime Video clients built-in, and the Chromecast could be useful to play content from your phone. Unfortunately, however, the broadband speed is also poor, quite often making streaming video infeasible. So the DVDs and board games could well prove their worth. All things considered, a very nice place to stay.

Fantastic! We stayed at Crab Cottage 4th-6th July 2020. It was our first time away since the lockdown following the pandemic. I was so nervous about going away but, Even before we arrived, my mind was put at ease. They emailed to say what changes had been made because of COVID 19 and when we arrived there was hand wash everywhere, new cleaning products as well as a welcome note, milk, tea, coffee, sugar and scones! It was a beautiful home away from home and it allowed us to escape the stress of lockdown etc. The cottage was the perfect size for me, my husband and two kids (age 6&8) and our dog. It had all utensils, pots, pans etc. We all slept so soundly in the comfortable beds & lovely quality bedding. The location was absolutely perfect (just a 2 minute walk to the harbour). The only slight downside was all the steps up to the garden (only one hand rail) so we couldn’t just let the kids & the dog out by themselves. However, they all loved the garden despite the steps. We’re currently staying in a log cabin in Cornwall and, although it’s lovely, we were left no cleaning products, hand wash or anything that might come in handy upon arrival. Crab cottage gets all the stars for thinking of their guests and all their needs (especially during such an anxious time). We would definitely go back. Thank you so much.
