Gurkha Barnstaple

We've been to the Gurkha many times and it remains top of our list for any events and social gatherings amongst our group of friends. The staff are extremely friendly and kind, and made my 32nd birthday meal special.It's a small place but that adds to the character. You can still easily meet there with a large group if you book ahead.The food is always excellent and very flavourful. I highly recommend the Base Camp Curry if you like it a little hotter. Couldn't finish mine last night and had to take the rest home, couldn't bare to waste it!Will absolutely visit here again.

Came here for a different style of cuisine and having had Nepalese food a few years ago I wanted to try a different dish again.I ordered the Base Camp Curry from the waiters recommendation as I wanted a traditional dish with some spice. Ordered this alongside a Gurkha Naan (Garlic Naan with fresh Chillies). Other dishes that were ordered was Tori Macha and Shahi Paneer. All the dishes were really good, unique, flavorful and tasty. The Base Camp Curry was exactly what I wanted, not over spicy where I rushed or fought through my dish, but enough heat for me to enjoy a dish with a kick.The waiter was really friendly, approachable and knowledgeable in each dish which helped in making decisions in what to eat.The location, although on a side street makes it more interesting as to what's the restaurant going to offer. From my experience I would say definitely give it a go, you won't go wrongDropped a star on the atmosphere as we weren't there whilst it was busy so couldn't give a full 5, but with the background music and service from the staff no complaints here 👌🏽

Oh what can I say! Our second visit and the standard of service and food as good as the first visit. Such a lovely team of smiley, genteel Nepalese and the chef is second to non. Would definitely recommend and can’t thank them enough for treating Lee on his birthday with cake and music. Such a delight and surprise. Can’t wait to go back. Namaste to you all 🙏

It might not look nice from the outside, but as they say don't judge the book by it's cover. It looks cozy inside and comfy.The staffs are really nice and hospitable. 5 thumbs up to the men who serves the food.I definitely recommend this restaurant.

Overall experience was one star because i have woken up the next morning, regretting my experience here. The starter was enjoyable but the main was rubbish. I ordered what was advertised as a spicy garlic lamb dish but what I got was what tasted like tinned tomatoes with very little flavour with a few pieces of lamb… Very disappointed with the lack of flavour. The waiting staff were very pleasant but the gentleman server was a hustler… After we made our orders, he continued to suggest more and more food to the person who I was with, gullible, she fell into his trap… Unfortunately , I was the person who was paying🙄 It was the way he targeted her, and turned his back to me while he did this. I wasn't impressed. The atmosphere was ok but the décor needed updating 20 years ago… Floral carpet isn't a thing anymore… The bill was just over £70 for two people, not worth it….
