Fish itself was a good portion, and nice and flakey however the batter was raw in parts leaving an inedible mush. Chips were decent and service was cheerful.

I tend to disregard poor reviews because some people do like to complain. In this case I should have taken note. And I don't leave negative reviews readily. I have had worse fish and chips, but rarely. The chips were stodgy and running in grease. The fish itself was ok, but the batter simply wasn't cooked on the inside – it was like slime. The shop was busy, evidently popular with the locals, and the staff were very friendly, but unfortunately the quality of the food was very disappointing. I do not recommend.

Overwhelmingly disappointing, especially considering the rave (local?) reviews and pictures. I appreciate everyone has their own tastes and perhaps if this is the only fish shop around, residents don't know any better, but this was honestly vile.£8(x4) for what was 5 forkfuls of fish is not great. The batter was inedible, oil drenched and sticky. We peeled it off entirely. The fish itself was coated in an alarming yellow sludge, which I pray was uncooked batter. Once scrapped off, there was barely a few mm of fish beneath it. The accompanying chips were anemic and left a chemical taste and residue in the mouth after. They did cook this fresh in front of us, but were these 'substances' fresh before they entered the oil?….A good cod fillet should be flaky and around 1 inch at its thickest point with crispy dry batter…. Not a thin wafer of questionable consistency 'flesh' soup which leaves you wondering what in fact you just ate.We grabbed this on the way to Hartland Quay, neither us, nor the seagulls enjoyed it.

I really wanted to like this place due to the fact that the food is cooked to order, good service and friendly atmosphere my wife experienced whilst in the shop but unfortunately the quality of the food was not good. I echo the negative reviews about the quality of the fish and batter. The batter was oily, heavy and gooey when pulled from the fish. The fish itself tasted odd, heavily flavoured/coloured by the oil and the texture was inconsistent. Chips were average and portions normal. I really hate leaving negative reviews for small businesses but believe the feedback is fair in this instance. Real shame.
