Tarka Valley Railway

The Tarka Valley Railway is a heritage railway line that regales in the nostalgia of a bygone era of British railway travel

Located in Station, Station Hill, Great Torrington, Torrington EX38 8JD, UK, this narrow-gauge line recovered from an overgrown state and, after years of successful restoration, was re-opened to the public in 2008

Now visitors can board the historic train and enjoy the scenic views of the surrounding Taw Valley as they pass Morwellham Quay, the Victorian industrial port, Meeth Halt station and Eggesford station

Prior to the heritage railway service’s re-opening, the line was used as part of Britain’s “Great Central Railway” and is now preserved as an attraction to visitors of all ages

It's a great walk, there are a lot of cyclists that use this part of the Tarka trail, so it is imperative that you keep eye in front of you and behind, especially if you have a dog off lead. Sadly there are a small band of cyclists that treat the trail as a proving ground for speed trails. But that said it is a good walk, with the Puffing Billy where you can get food and drinks.
