We visited on a Wednesday afternoon, in February. The venue was closed, but there was an honesty box, £4pp to walk around the grounds. Free car parking was directly in front of the house. There were no other visitors while we were there. It was a really attractive place to visit, and all of the camellias and rhododendrons were in bloom. Dogs are welcome on short leads. We did a circular walk up to the castle, which has amazing views. The paths are hilly and predominantly hard standing/gravel with little mud. Sensible footwear is advisable. It was a great place for a walk.

SUMMER PLUS AUTUMN UPDATE: There are many aspects of this venue that make it so worth a visit. The house is impressive, classic and elegant and looks very at home in the expansive grounds. The grounds and lawns are wonderfully well managed, they are immaculately presented. The Millennium garden leading up to the house is gentle, and beautifully softly planted. To the West side there is the woodland walk that follows the brook, the range and texture in the greens at the moment is fantastic. All gardeners take time to stop and talk to you. I spoke to a young lady employed by the estate to look after the horses and was delighted to note that she spoke of her employer both fondly and with great respect. A huge "shout out" for the tea room, filter coffee, and a fantastic bacon, brie and cranberry toastie. They come over and ask you during the meal "is everything OK sir", I love that they do that! I loved photographing this garden and will be back in the Autumn and Spring to update my images. Even though Autumn is late this year there was still plenty of colour to shoot in the garden. This is a lovely garden I hope you enjoy the new images.

Wow, beautiful gardens with good walk paths, we really enjoyed our visit. We managed to walk over 10 000 steps. Very good views. There are some walk paths suitable for wheelchairs users. There is blue badge parking space available near the entrance, and a disabled toilet by the gate. The staff are very helpful and friendly. We had tea for 2 and a cake before leaving. They also had a menu of light meals. I highly recommend that if you enjoy walking, this is your place.

A hidden gem, lots of good walking for those wanting to tire out children. Great views from the castle at the top, augmented by wonderful gardens. It's a family owned estate, so you might be lucky enough to meet a member! As the name suggests, it's hilly, and really steep in parts, but well served by paths. The castle is good fun for kids. There are toilets by the entrance and behind the house, including one with baby change.
