Bank holiday weekend and we needed a place to eat on Sunday evening – a quick Google turned up The Old Smithy Inn and a call reserved a table. When we arrived there was a live music session on the go and the kids found it a bit noisy inside as our table was next to the music, a quick chat to the staff and we hopped outside to a pod. Ordering was easy, food arrived quickly and tasted great. Rattler Cider recommended by the staff was super and I'd go there again in a heartbeat for a meal and the general atmosphere.

Superbly enjoyable stay at this charming inn. Very friendly welcome from the staff, lovely clean and charming rooms (pleasant view from the Welcombe room). Great food and a good choice of ales and wines at reasonable prices. Lovely quiet location, ideal for walkers. We'll definitely be back and have already recommended to friends and family.

Really enjoyed coming back to the Smithy for a Sunday roast for the first time in some years. I was even more pleased to come after having won the Sunday Roast for 2 competition that the pub ran on social media. The service was very welcoming and friendly, accommodating my 5 yr old son and catering to his needs alongside ours. The Sunday roast itself was very enjoyable. Admittedly we made the reservation at the last minute to arrive for 2.30pm so we were probably the last to be served that lunchtime but we were well accommodated nonetheless. The meat was tender and moist, nice selection of local seasonal veg. We'll be back again! We all had a lovely time, thank you Team Smithy.

We came to stay at the smithy inn for the bank holiday on august the 26th-29th to enjoy a relaxing weekend away. Traveled from Birmingham to The smithy Inn which took 4 hours which we were completely fine with as we were excited for our stay. However when arrived we were shown to our room which looked very cosy and cute, but we went to use the toilet and found there to be a non pleasant smell & also a very noticeable amount of pubic look hair on the towel rack that had not been cleaned. We were sadly disappointed in this so we decided to leave and find somewhere else. However when going to approach the hotel owner about the issue , he was very rude towards my partner and almost aggressive and left us very upset and disappointed.

A proper pub, a beautiful old Devon thatch set in a tiny hamlet 5 mins off the A39. Off road parking and well laid out gardens with tables and seating lead to steps down to a stone flagged patio area and the main entrance. The interior is still an old style pub, not overly lit with plenty of seating. A wide selection of drinks, local ales as well and a well thought out menu at good prices make the Old Smithy a pub for locals and visitors alike. The staff are welcoming and friendly, our evening was a pleasure. I think there is wheelchair access from the lane onto the patio area! Always call in when we're passing. Highly recommended.
