Nestled between Dartmoor and the beautiful North Devon Coast, this exclusive-use woodland site is ideally placed for exploring the countryside. As well as having access to a National Cycle Route and the Tarka Trail, you’ll have your very own two-acre wood right next door.
The peaceful and private surroundings of Ruby’s Orchard provide the ideal setting for a peaceful wildlife holiday. The owners take great care to ensure the environment is kept as a natural habitat for all kinds of wildlife, with paths maintained regularly, grassy areas left to thrive and bramble and gorse kept to provide shelter for wildlife. You can even go on your own wildlife safari – with a shallow, unfenced pond providing the perfect habitat for frogs, newts, damselflies and dragonflies.
As well as giving children the opportunity to make dens, climb trees and explore the woods next door, adults also have plenty to do; from relaxing in a hammock, cooking up a feast on the barbecue and gathering around the firepit for star gazing, to simply enjoying the peace.
There’s a yurt for up to four people, and the option of adding an additional nylon tent for larger groups. Mattresses, bedding and futons are provided – along with throws, blankets and hot water bottles for added cosiness. Featuring composting toilets, gas-fired showers and a kitchen tent with dining table, chairs and cooking equipment – all serviced daily – you’ll find everything you need here.
Despite the remote location, amenities are within reach – there’s a local pub and village shop a mere 15 minutes away by bike, as well as a picturesque riverside walk and a glorious stretch of the traffic-free Tarka Trail. Do bear in mind that as there is no mains electricity on site, it is best to bring your own solar or car charging devices for phones, and a torch for midnight toilet trips!
