Make a Cob Bug Hotel: A Fun and Messy Adventure! (31st May 2023)

Make a Cob Bug Hotel!
,

Wednesday, 31st May 2023. Let your children discover the joy of building with cob and help create a welcoming home for solitary bees and other beneficial insects in your garden.

Cob: A Natural Builder’s Dream

Cob, a blend of sandy-sub soil, clay, and straw, is an excellent natural material for crafting bug hotels.

It can get a little messy, but that’s all part of the fun! This hands-on workshop allows children to get creative while learning about the importance of solitary bees, who are vital pollinators in our ecosystem.

A Hotel for Bugs

After constructing their cob bug hotel, children can bring it home, place it in a sunny spot in the garden, and wait for the bugs to move in.

It’s a wonderful way to connect with nature and promote biodiversity in your own backyard.

Important Information

This workshop is designed for children aged 5 and above. Adults must accompany and supervise their children at all times.

Adults are welcome to assist their children but, sorry, adults cannot build their own cob bug hotel.

Please bring gardening gloves or similar to protect your hands when mixing the cob, as the mixture may contain sharp stones. Dress for mess!

The course is taught outside, so weather-appropriate clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty is recommended.

The workshop duration is one hour and is offered twice on the day: from 9:30 to 10:30 am and from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. The cost is £8 per child.
